Either because the names became so bizarre that people just had to look (ImBleedingProfusely.com... wow, wtf is that about, I must look!) or they more accurately reflected the content of the website (CrankyCoders.com is still online?). I see no problem with renaming a blog, it's just a matter of what are you going to rename it to? Well, name changes have generally had a positive effect on the blogs.
